Announced today at Scotstoun Stadium – the home of Glasgow Warriors – the tie-up cements the work of the partnership over the past eight years to break down barriers and make the world of rugby and engineering more accessible.

The SP Energy Networks Schools Championship has seen over 6,500 pupils across 28 Glasgow schools – many who’d never been involved with the sport before – taking part in an annual school rugby championship.

They’ve also helped introduce “quiet” sessions to give rugby fans with sensory and additional needs the chance to watch a Captain’s Run, go behind the scenes and meet the players.

To break down barriers in pupils considering a career in science, engineering, technology or maths (STEM), SP Energy Networks and Glasgow Warriors have also hosted dedicated events which saw 90% of the pupils involved say they’d now consider a career in STEM.

The partnership also aims to raise awareness of SP Energy Networks’ Priority Service Register (PSR), which supports vulnerable customers. Working together, both organisations have shared PSR information with more than 10,000 vulnerable people through their charity partners and regular attendance at The Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.

Nicola Connelly, CEO of SP Energy Networks, said: “Communities are at the heart of our work and our partnership with Glasgow Warriors is making a real difference.

“We’re supporting children into sport and to be active, helping those who may not always get the opportunity and also increasing awareness of our Priority Service Register – a vital tool for customers who may need additional support in the event of a power cut.

“We look forward to building on our success together and making an even greater difference in the community.”

Kenny Brown, interim Managing Director of Glasgow Warriors, added: “Our partnership with SP Energy Networks is about so much more than rugby, it’s about creating real opportunities and making a lasting difference in people’s lives.

“Together, we’ve inspired thousands of young people, supported vulnerable members of our community, and opened doors to education and sport.

“As we renew this partnership, we’re excited to build on that success and continue working side by side to deliver an even greater impact across Glasgow and beyond.”
