The opportunity has been made possible through a unique partnership between Glasgow Warriors and long-standing club partners the University of Strathclyde and Denholm Energy Services.
Having successfully completed the standard application and admissions process required of all Executive MBA candidates, Steyn will have his tuition fees covered through the partnership.
The initiative marks a significant milestone in the club’s commitment to supporting players both during and beyond their rugby careers, helping them prepare for life after the game while continuing to perform at the highest level on the field.
Michael Beveridge, Denholm Energy Services Chief Executive, said: “At Denholm Energy Services, we understand the value of leadership, continuous learning and investing in people.
“When the opportunity arose to support Kyle through the Executive MBA programme, it was an easy decision for us.
“Kyle has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities throughout his career and we are delighted to play a role in supporting his personal and professional development.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to helping individuals realise their potential and we’re excited to see the impact this experience will have on Kyle both during and after his rugby career.
“We hope this can be the beginning of an initiative that supports future Glasgow Warriors players as they prepare for life beyond the game.”
Mary Galbraith, Programme Director for the Executive MBA at Strathclyde, added: “The Executive MBA offered by Strathclyde Business School is an excellent fit for professionals in sport, and we’re delighted that both Glasgow Warriors and Kyle Steyn have opted to invest in leadership development with us, using the Performance Sports Scholarship Programme.
“Our part-time programme offers flexibility, so that leaders with full-time roles can fit their studies around their own work schedules. Add in that the Business School is triple-accredited, with a team of globally recognised academics, it’s a great match for both parties.”
Glasgow Warriors Managing Director Kenny Brown welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of investing in player development away from rugby.
“This is a first for Glasgow Warriors and something we’re incredibly proud to be able to offer,” said Brown.
“We are committed to supporting our players not only in their rugby careers but also in preparing them for their futures beyond the game.
“It’s great that we can provide an opportunity to support players with their plans for life after rugby by accessing world-class education.
“We’d like to thank both the University of Strathclyde and Denholm Oilfield Services for their support in making this possible. Their investment in Kyle’s development demonstrates a shared commitment to helping our players achieve success both on and off the field.”
Steyn, who will undertake the Executive MBA alongside his playing commitments as club captain, believes the programme presents a valuable opportunity to broaden his skillset and prepare for the future.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the University of Strathclyde, Denholm Energy Services and Glasgow Warriors for making this opportunity possible,” said Steyn.
“Professional rugby provides so many opportunities, but it also teaches you the importance of preparing for what comes next. The Executive MBA is a world-class programme and one that will challenge me in a completely different environment.
“The support from the University of Strathclyde and Denholm Energy Services has been incredible, and I’m grateful that they’ve chosen to invest in my development.
“I’m looking forward to learning from the academics and my fellow students, while developing skills that will benefit me both during my rugby career and long after it.”
