SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight | Nominations Open for April

Each month Glasgow Warriors and SP Energy Networks will highlight the work of someone in the grassroots game doing great work to grow rugby and support the local community in Glasgow, the West, and Caledonia. Each person highlighted throughout the 2023/24 season will be shortlisted for the SP Energy Networks Community Hero Award, won at the Glasgow Warriors Annual Awards Dinner.

Director of Minis and Youth Rugby at GHA Rugby Club Ross Haggerty is a previous winner of the award.

“My nomination was a huge surprise for myself, and it was humbling to be recognised individually when a lot of the efforts of the club come from a great team at GHA RFC,” Ross said.

Winners of the award are given complimentary tickets to Glasgow Warriors hospitality. Furthermore, they get the opportunity to present the match ball or player of the match medal at the game.

Ross discussed how enjoyable his experience was: “It was fantastic to bring my family to hospitality and be warmly welcomed by all those in Glasgow Warriors. Al Kellock said some nice words about my nomination at the meal which again was fantastic.

“The food, drinks and service were tremendous as was the company at the tables. I was then escorted down by the great events team who told me what I needed to do to deliver the match ball. It was great to see the players in the tunnel getting ready to run out onto the field.

“A special and surprising touch was that a lot of the kids from my club were there too doing the guard of honour, which is what it’s all about!

“It was great to be highlighted for the work with kids’ rugby, but this was a team effort, and that team extends from GHA RFC minis right through to Glasgow Warriors!”
