Fundraising hero invited to Scotstoun as team mascot

13 Apr 2023

Glasgow Warriors have an extra special mascot joining them when they take the field at tomorrow night’s Plaster It Purple fixture against Scarlets.

The mascot is nine-year-old Euan Allison. Euan was diagnosed with a tumour on his optic nerve in 2021. Since then, he has been through extensive chemotherapy treatment. Despite the challenges of treatment, it hasn’t stopped Euan and his family tirelessly fundraising for Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

The Allison’s, through various fundraising events culminating in their Little Warriors Big Ball in Lanark last November, have raised more than £163,000 for the children’s hospital.

The money has also specifically been invested in two vital services the hospital offers. Half has gone to ophthalmology, completely funding a state-of-the-art imaging system to allow timely diagnosis of tumours in the eyes and brain.

The other half has been invested in the Schiehallion, the paediatric oncology ward, where Euan was treated. This money is supporting early phase clinical trials for children with cancer.

The club are delighted to have Euan joining them at Scotstoun tomorrow night when Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity takes centre stage once again.

Club Captain, Kyle Steyn, said: “It’s fitting on a day like today to have someone like Euan join us as our mascot. With everything he has faced, to go beyond his own battle and fundraise in the way he and his family has done, that shows the true spirit of a Warrior. We’re really lucky to have him with us as we Plaster Scotstoun Purple.”
