Tuipulotu named in BKT URC Elite XV
Sione Tuipulotu has been selected in the 2022/23 BKT United Rugby Championship Elite XV, after a season that saw the centre become a midfield staple for both club and country.
The centre is the sole Glasgow player included in the team, which includes representatives from 11 of the 16 teams in the competition.
Chosen by a panel of journalists and broadcasters, players had to have made a minimum of nine appearances to be considered, with the media panel given a shortlist of 10 players per position, provided by URC StatMaster. The player with the most votes in each position earned a place in the team.
A strong runner with ball in hand, Tuipulotu’s BKT URC campaign finished with the centre recording 332 metres with ball in hand, as well as making 92 carries across the campaign.
The centre’s distribution with ball in hand, too, frequently saw the Scotland star find space to release his team-mates, a Player of the Match-winning display in the 1872 Cup-clinching victory over Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield just one of a series of high-calibre performances across the campaign.
It’s the latest accolade in a standout season for Tuipulotu, who was also named in the official Team of the Tournament for the 2023 Guinness Six Nations earlier this season.
