Rory Sutherland

Prop

British and Irish Lions prop Rory Sutherland moved to Glasgow Warriors ahead of the 2024/25 season, making the switch to Scotstoun from French side Oyonnax.

The Hawick native made his Glasgow Warriors debut off the bench in round two of the 2024/25 BKT URC, taking to the field in a 42-10 victory over Benetton at Scotstoun.

His first start came a week later, helping his side to a 52-36 win over Cardiff at the Arms Park.

The former Edinburgh loose-head – who made 91 appearances for the capital outfit across a seven-year spell – brings a dynamic ball-carrying presence to Scotstoun, in addition to a solid set-piece platform.

Sutherland has also represented Worcester Warriors and Ulster in addition to his time at Edinburgh and Oyonnax, making 12 appearances for the Ulstermen in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

The Hawick native made his debut for Scotland in 2016, running out against Ireland in the Guinness Six Nations.

His form for Scotland across the 2020 and 2021 campaigns saw him selected for the 2021 British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa, joining future Glasgow team-mate Zander Fagerson amongst the front-row options.

He became the first Scottish prop to represent the invitational squad since the late Tom Smith when selected for the first Test, playing just under an hour in the 22-17 victory over the Springboks.
