In February 2019, Glasgow Warriors announced the signing of Scotland 7s winger Kyle Steyn on a one-year deal ahead of the 2019/20 season.
Steyn was available to play for his new club when he was not playing on the 7s circuit and made his debut in a 38-34 win over Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park five days after signing.
His form since arriving at Scotstoun was recognised by the fans, with Steyn sharing the Warrior of the Month award for March 2019 with fellow centre Stafford McDowall.
After 14 months out of rugby due to a combination of the COVID-19-enforced suspension of sport and a long-term injury, Steyn returned to action in the opening match of the 2021 Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup against Benetton.
He then scored on his return to Scotstoun, capping off an inspired performance in a 29-19 win over Edinburgh to secure the 1872 Cup for the Warriors.
He played in six HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments for Scotland having been named a core squad member at the beginning of the 2018/19 season.
After making his international debut off the bench against France in March 2020, Steyn made history on his first start in a Scotland jersey; the winger crossed for four tries in a 60-14 victory over Tonga at BT Murrayfield, becoming the first men’s player since Gavin Hastings to achieve the feat – and the first at the home of Scottish rugby.
A former student at the University of Stellenbosch, South African-born Steyn has played 15s rugby in the Currie Cup for the Griquas and was named as the side’s captain for their 2018 campaign.
Steyn became only the second captain of a Scottish club side to ever lift a trophy in June 2024, as the winger held the BKT URC trophy aloft after leading his team to a 21-16 win over the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in the 2023/24 Grand Final.
