Having been involved with Kirkcaldy Rugby Club for over 38 years, Heather has held various roles at the club. This includes being a coach and project manager.

Heather now works primarily with pre-school and primary school children at the club. She is known to many players as ‘aunty Heather’, highlighting her commitment to the club and the sport.

Heather is an ambassador for Kirkcaldy rugby club. Heather has organised disability events at the club and supports primary schools, local charities and partners to run events. She also volunteers at a local community centre, supporting families struggling with the cost of living.

Heather’s volunteering efforts extend beyond Kirkcaldy Rugby Club and certainly do not go unnoticed.

‘We have amazing volunteers at Kirkcaldy who are all willing to go that extra mile to make people feel welcome,’ Heather said. ‘Times are tough for lots of kids and parents with the cost of living. We try very hard to make rugby possible for everyone.’

Through Heather’s clothes and boot banks and sponsorship coordination, she makes sure rugby is affordable to everyone.

Heather was nominated by Stuart Oliver. He said: ‘The club is delighted that Heather has been recognised for all her great work within the club and local community.

‘She is always putting others first and is just such an inspiration to everyone in the way she takes jobs and roles on, making the club such a positive place. She never wants any thanks for the work she does, and it is fitting that this can be recognised.’

After being selected as the SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight winner for October, Heather said: ‘To be nominated for this award was fabulous and to be picked as the winner is so exciting.

‘It’s important to recognise our volunteers. Though we don’t do our role for recognition, it’s still really nice to know people appreciate you. I love being part of the club family we have at Kirkcaldy. I have friends for life.’

As part of her recognition, Heather will receive two matchday hospitality tickets to our next home game against the Scarlets on Friday 29 November. She will also be delivering the match ball.
