SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight | Beverley Addison

As part of this recognition, Beverley will present the Match Ball on Friday night at our BKT United Rugby Championship fixture against Munster. She will also be shortlisted for the SP Energy Networks Community Hero, in memory of Jim Taylor MBE which will be presented at the annual awards dinner in May.

Beverley’s original role at the start of 2025 was Director of Women & Girls Rugby. This role included responsibility for all age groups within the women’s section and the senior women’s teams.

In 2025 Beverly sustained an ACL injury, but rather than stepping back, she continued to support the club in every way possible and now works across all sections of the club.

She has organised multiple ‘Come and Try’ days for the club across both men and women’s sections and for different ages. Beverley has also worked to strengthen external links including arranging an international friendly for the women’s team against an American side, the Sabres, which helped to raise the club’s profile and provide valuable playing experience. She also secured external funding opportunities to further grow the club.

Under Beverley’s leadership and support, both U16 teams reached the National Bowl finals, which take place at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

Beverley also worked to secure sponsorship funding to help reduce monthly membership costs across all sections and to support with the purchase of kid, making rugby more accessible to players and families. In addition to this, she established a hardship fund within the club. The fund ensures that rugby is open to everyone who wants to play regardless of financial circumstances and has enabled many people within the local community to experience rugby and benefit of being part of a team.

“I’m really shocked and surprised to have received this very kind nomination for my work with our Women & Girls Rugby Programme at GWRFC.” Said Louise, “It is a project I am very passionate about – I believe that all girls and women should have a safe space to be themselves and to find joy in their lives through rugby.

“I believe that this applies to everyone – if I can help one young girl find confidence in herself through rugby then I will have done something right. We don’t do any of this for recognition, but it is of course always nice for the work to be recognised.

“The girls do such a great job representing themselves, their teams and our club and it wouldn’t be anything without them giving up their time to rugby and growing the game we all love.

“Not being able to be on the pitch after a nasty injury this year, I chose to throw my new-found time away from the pitch into helping the girls. It has given me a sense of purpose that I needed during a tough rehab.

“It just brought into focus for me how much impact we can all have on young players coming into the game and if my extra time with them has made an impact on any of the girls then it will have all been worthwhile.

“Thank you to all of the players, parents, coaches and volunteers who are part of my section at GWRFC as without them none of the success we have had would be possible.”

“She gives so much of her time and energy to make rugby accessible, welcoming and supportive across our local community, and we’re incredibly proud of everything she does.

“The women’s and girls’ section especially appreciate everything Beverley does for us; she is the person who keeps everything moving behind the scenes, and her support has had a lasting impact on players, families and volunteers across the club.

“Her dedication truly goes above and beyond, and she shows what can be achieved when someone gives their all to help others and strengthen the club.”
