SP Energy Networks Community Hero Spotlight | Gregor Kennedy

3 Apr 2025

Glasgow Warriors is delighted to announce Gregor Kennedy as this month's SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight.

Gregor Kennedy was nominated by Steven McCooey of Strathendrick Rugby Club for the work he does as Midi’s Convenor.

Gregor is involved in growing the mini and midi sections of the club with making sure rugby is accessible and welcoming to all.

He coaches weekly and supports with Saturday and Sunday rugby. He has recently taken over the organisation of the S1-U18 age (midi) and goes above and beyond what is expected of a volunteer.

Gregor also works with Balfron High to deliver extra curricular sessions to increase the reach of rugby in his local community and to those who might not otherwise experience the sport.

Gregor is a supporter of the whole club and not just the sections he is directly involved in.  He attends as many games as possible regardless of weather and is the current club person of the year.

His love for the game has spread to his family with both his children playing for the club, and his wife now playing for the Women’s team.

On winning this months award, Gregor Kennedy said, “I started coaching midway through P2 and I’m still coaching the same team at U14s now.

“It’s been a joy seeing the boys and girls develop over the years into confident and enthusiastic players who are still enjoying everything rugby had to offer.

“The wider Strathendrick coaching group has been invaluable for information and help when required.  Putting my hand up to coach has been one of the best decisions I’ve made, if you are thinking abut it go for it!”

Steven McCooey who nominated Gregor said, “I’m thrilled that the work Gregor dedicates to the club, school and sport has been acknowledged.

“He embodies the true meaning of a volunteer, and is humble in his approach. He goes above and beyond in every task he does, enhancing experiences for the entire club.

“I know everyone at the club will be delighted Gregor’s hard work and dedication has been highlighted through such a special award”
