Glasgow Warriors launch bespoke 1872 Cup anniversary kit

The new shirt – which is now on sale from the Scottish Rugby Store on Queen Street in Glasgow city centre – will be worn for the first time at Scotstoun next month, as Franco Smith’s men welcome Edinburgh on Friday 23 December (kick-off 7.35pm) Click here for match tickets. Predominantly white with black and gold trim, the shirt pays tribute to the first-ever Glasgow District team that took to the field against Edinburgh on 23 November 1872 – 150 years ago today. The team can be found at the bottom of this story.

Played by teams of 20-a-side, the match took place at Burnbank, with the 1872 Cup trophy named to honour the famous first meeting.

A new anniversary logo can be found alongside the club’s ‘Whatever It Takes’ mantra on the back of the shirt, with the trophy itself embossed on the side panels.

The back of the neck also features a nod to the origin of the 1872 Cup, with the ‘Whatever It Takes’ mantra repeated in sky blue on the inside of the collar.

Produced by the club’s Official Kit Supplier, Macron, the Macron Hero logo is joined by the Glasgow Warriors emblem and the logo of Official Community Partner, SP Energy Networks, on the front of the shirt.

Supporters are able to buy the shirt online and in store at the Official Scottish Rugby Store at 44 Queen Street, Glasgow; the store’s festive opening times, which come into effect from 28 November, can be found below:
