Cordero extends Glasgow Warriors deal

Glasgow Warriors have further boosted their back-three options ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, after Argentinian flyer Facundo Cordero agreed to extend his contract with the Scotstoun outfit subject to visa.

Having initially joined on a short-term deal until the end of the season back in March, the former Exeter Chief follows in the footsteps of countryman Sebastian Cancelliere – one of 11 players to renew their deals with Glasgow Warriors – in committing his future to the club ahead of the new campaign.

Whilst yet to make his senior debut for Franco Smith’s men, Cordero was part of the Glasgow Warriors A squad that participated in the first three rounds of the 2023 Super Series Sprint, taking to the field for the first time in Glasgow colours during the round three clash with Stirling Wolves at Bridgehaugh.

Comfortable on either wing or at full-back, the former Jaguares man made 33 appearances for Exeter across all competitions, scoring eight tries for the Sandy Park squad.

“It was a straightforward decision for me to re-sign,” Cordero told glasgowwarriors.org.

“The opportunity to stay here and play the style of rugby that Glasgow is known for was one I couldn’t pass up, and there’s a really good group of people at the club.

“I’m excited to come back stronger next season – picking up an injury just after I got here was frustrating, but I’m determined to show the coaches and the supporters what I can do and earn the chance to pull on the Glasgow jersey.

“Having a strong group of Argentinians here definitely helped me to settle in quicker, too. To see your friends every day means this doesn’t feel like a job, and all of the lads at Scotstoun really welcomed me with open arms from day one. I’m very grateful and very happy to be staying.”

Head Coach Smith added: “We’re pleased to be able to retain Facundo’s services ahead of next season.

“He’s someone who is keen to improve and eager to show the Warrior Nation what he can do on the field.

“We look forward to continuing to work with him ahead of the new season.”
