Glasgow Warriors extend partnership with University of Strathclyde

Glasgow Warriors will have the support of one of Scotland’s leading universities for a further five years, after the club renewed its partnership with the University of Strathclyde until at least the summer of 2029.

The announcement was marked by a celebratory reception at the university’s state-of-the-art Strathclyde Sport facility, where both parties came together to honour the four University of Strathclyde Sport Performance Scholars who played a key role in the Glasgow Warriors triumph in securing the BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) Trophy.

Strathclyde students from the Glasgow Warriors squad and academy proudly displayed the BKT URC trophy, allowing attendees to take photos and hear firsthand about the remarkable sporting achievement.

The celebration also featured three university students, who were members of the Scotland U20 squad who secured victory in the World U20 Trophy competition earlier this summer.

The partnership between the university and Glasgow Warriors began in 2018 and the renewal will continue to support the unified ambitions of the university and Glasgow Warriors of providing a dual career pathway.

The collaboration focuses on several key areas, including making the University a premier destination for both male and female rugby talent, enhancing participation and inclusion by fostering a welcoming and socially progressive environment, and supporting graduate employability.

Following the announcement, the University of Strathclyde’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Jim McDonald, said: “At Strathclyde, we’re delighted to extend our partnership with Glasgow Warriors, a collaboration that has already returned incredible successes.

This renewal highlights our shared vision of excellence in rugby and our commitment to equality in sports. We’re excited about the opportunities this partnership will continue to bring for our students and the broader rugby community.”

Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “Our relationship with the University of Strathclyde plays a vital part in ensuring our players continue to take steps towards a successful career after rugby.

“It also gives us access to state-of-the-art facilities at their Strathclyde Sports venues and a valuable link into Glasgow’s student community, particularly through the annual varsity match we host at Scotstoun Stadium.

“This is a partnership we are proud of and look forward to continuing.”
