SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight | Siobhan Brown
Glasgow Warriors are delighted to announce that this month’s SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight is Siobhan Brown of Waysiders Drumpellier RFC.
Siobhan looks after Micro Rugby all the way through to P7 Rugby. Not only is she involved with rugby, she organises events within the youth section such as foodbank drives, family nights and making sure the whole club comes together not just for rugby but for the local community too.
She is credited with helping to grow the ‘work force’ at Waysiders, with people who are fully engaged within the club and the youth section and is also keenly driving and developing engagement from the parents and coaching.
James Brown nominated her for the work she does in the club, saying: “The work Siobhan does makes the players day, week in week out. Her drive to include every child and parent means to the world to everyone in her club and community.
“A stalwart of the club and community, she brings fun, enthusiasm and drives people to help and be better.”
Siobhan was delighted to be recognised as this month’s SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight. Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org she said “I got involved when my son started to play six years ago. I get so much from working with the club.
“I love to see the kids coming into our pre-school age groups and watching them grow in both skill and confidence.
“We have children who have suffered from anxiety and low confidence when they joined, to now being confident, thriving and their passion and love of the game shines through!
She credits the hard work of all the people involved with the club that help her to achieve such an inclusive and positive environment.
“Our team welcomes players and members from all. We drive and pursue inclusivity to ensure that all players and their families get a great experience with our club.
“Our coaches and I work tirelessly form pre-school to primary seven and above to ensure we provide an inclusive and welcoming environment and ensure that they get the best experience.
“I always try to get to know our parents and get the involved in volunteering through coaching, first aid, catering at games, organising games and fundraising amongst other things.”
One of the highlights for the club is a Christmas event that Siobhan hosts, which includes Santa visits, presents and a small party. The event also matches up with a foodbank drive to support those in the community who need it most.
As part of being this month’s Community Spotlight, Siobhan will deliver the Match Ball on Friday evening in Glasgow Warriors opening Investec Champions Cup game against Northampton Saints at Scotstoun.
