Fraser extends Glasgow Warriors contract

Glasgow Warriors hooker Angus Fraser says that the opportunity to keep developing with the club is “priceless”, after putting pen to paper on a new deal with his first professional outfit.

The former Dundee Eagle follows fellow hookers Johnny Matthews and Gregor Hiddleston in committing his future to the club, having enjoyed something of a breakout campaign for Franco Smith’s squad in 2023/24 to date.

Having made his debut in a famous Challenge Cup victory away to Bath in December 2022 to become the 350th player to represent Glasgow Warriors, Fraser enjoyed a strong run of form to start the 2023/24 season.

The 24-year-old marked his first professional start in style, crossing for the bonus-point try in a 43-25 victory over Leinster in round one of the BKT URC at Scotstoun.

An all-action display away to Connacht a week later further highlighted the young hooker’s development, Fraser’s form earning him the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award for October 2023.

A former recipient of the Macphail Scholarship – spending a year at Stellenbosch University in South Africa to further his rugby development -, he has also represented Scotland at both U18 and U20 level, as well as turning out for Stirling Wolves in the Super Series.

“It means the world to me,” Fraser told glasgowwarriors.org following his renewal.

“I love this club and the opportunities for development I’ve had here have been brilliant. To have the chance to keep developing under Franco and the coaches here is exactly what I feel like I need at this stage in my career.

“Being in the squad here, you learn so much from those around you. We’ve got a superb group of hookers here, and to have the chance to come in and learn from a pack full of international-calibre players is priceless for me.

“I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had to get out and get stuck in on game day, too, and I just want to keep putting my hand up for selection. I’m loving my rugby right now and I just want to keep on developing.”

Head Coach Smith added: “We’re excited to continue to work with Angus, as we continue to help him develop into the best version of himself on and off the field.

“He has performed well each time he has been selected, and works closely with both his team-mates and coaches to seek to improve in all aspects of his game.

“We know how proud Angus is to represent this club and we look forward to seeing him add to his tally of appearances across the next couple of seasons.”
