Glasgow ‘A’ hosted Edinburgh ‘A’ at Scotstoun on Friday 18 October in the second leg of the friendly. Edinburgh ‘A’ backed up their first win with a 12-29 over the Warriors.

Despite not taking the win, Glasgow ‘A’ displayed some fantastic performances with a number of returning players from injury, including Allan Dell.

Angus Fraser scored both of Glasgow’s two tries and proved his strong ability to break lines and carry successfully. Other stand out performances included Amena Caqusau who came off the bench. Fin Richardson and Callum Smyth also proved strong in the forwards.

A mix of youth and older players in Glasgow ‘ A’ faced a well-stacked Edinburgh ‘A’ side, including regular URC starter, Ben Healy.

Glasgow ‘A’ Head Coach Shade Munro emphasised how good he thought the fixture was both for the younger players and those returning from injury.

‘We’ve got a huge amount out of that game,’ Munro said.

‘That level of team that Edinburgh brought were strong and today is a really good learning curve for our guys.

‘Dan Halkon is only 18 and he was calling the line-outs. He’s never called line-outs before as a young lock. It’s a great learning opportunity and it meant he could learn the consequences of his decisions.

‘That goes for all our young players across the board.

‘They can all play and train really hard. But opportunities like this fixture help them learn how important certain aspects of games are.

‘The best club players need to have an outlet where they can show that they’re aspiring to play at the next level.

‘It gives us an idea who is ready to step up and also gives game time to those returning from injury.’

Shade commented on how Fin Richardson, one of Glasgow’s summer signings, played a very strong game: ‘He was really good. He’s just come in this year I thought he stood out today. It’s also good for the other pro players – Gus Fraser, Sean Kennedy – that they get to play a good standard of rugby.

‘Games like this give us a clear of idea where all the players in our squad are at with their development and that’s good for us coaches.’
