Shortlist announced for McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for December

Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Franco Smith has nominated four of the club’s standout performers from the month of December for the final McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award of 2024, after his side closed out the calendar year in a strong position in both the BKT United Rugby Championship and Investec Champions Cup.

The award – which also includes the club’s sole match in November, a nail-biting home victory over the Scarlets at the end of the month – comes following a run of fixtures in which the Warriors hit the ground running after returning from the autumn international break, lying second in both the BKT URC and in their European pool.

A statement 38-19 win over Sale Sharks at Scotstoun saw Glasgow open their European account in style, before claiming a brace of bonus-points in a 30-29 defeat away to Toulon just a week later.

The club then marked its biggest-ever home match in scintillating fashion by putting Edinburgh to the sword by 33-14 in front of over 27,000 spectators at Hampden Park, a narrow defeat at Scottish Gas Murrayfield in the return leg not enough to deny the Warriors the 1872 Cup for a third successive season.

Supporters can vote for their winner until 5pm on Friday 10 December on the club’s official Twitter channel.

The nominees are:

Gregor Hiddleston

Having been capped by Scotland A for the first time during November, 22-year-old Hiddleston enjoyed a productive December by featuring in all four matches for the Warriors.

The hooker’s sharp thinking and handling saw him assist George Horne’s second try in the win over Sale Sharks, in addition to making 21 tackles across the club’s two European clashes to date in 2024/25.

He then played all bar eight minutes of the club’s final match of the year at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, backing up an all-action cameo off the bench at Hampden Park a week earlier.

Scott Cummings

Now the club’s most-experienced second-rower, Cummings returned to Glasgow action in top form to land at the heart of the action across December.

The centurion muscled his way over the whitewash for Glasgow’s sixth and final score in the win over Sale, capping a display that also saw him earn two lineout steals from the English outfit.

His athletic ability in the loose was also on full display at Hampden Park, as Cummings’s line break and inside ball set up Jamie Dobie for a try at the home of Scottish football.

George Horne

Horne enjoyed a landmark month in Glasgow colours, becoming only the second player in club history to reach 50 tries for the Scotstoun outfit with an outstanding display against Sale Sharks at the start of the month.

The scrum-half’s hat-trick included a sublime effort for his second try of the night, deftly guiding a grubber kick down the touchline before regathering and touching down in the corner.

He is currently Glasgow’s leading scorer in the 2024/25 Investec Champions Cup, racking up 23 points across two matches to date and sitting joint-second in the try-scoring charts.

Kyle Rowe

Quickly becoming one of the club’s most consistent performers, Scotland flyer Rowe once again underlined his quality during December’s outings.

He is the only player to have played in all 400 minutes of rugby since Glasgow’s return to action following The Famous Grouse Nations Series, slotting in seamlessly at either wing or full-back, often to devastating effect.

No Warrior has made more clean breaks in the league in 2024/25 than Rowe, whilst only Johnny Matthews can lay claim to scoring more tries in a calendar year than the winger’s tally of 12 in 2024.
