Frisby delighted to get first win of new season

15 Oct 2019

It may not go down as a classic Glasgow Warriors performance, but Nick Frisby believes that Saturday night’s victory is only the starting point for this season’s squad.

The
Australian international touched down for the second of Glasgow’s two tries in the
17-13 win at Scotstoun, yet admits that the mood in the dressing room
post-match was one of mixed emotions.

“It was a
funny mood in the dressing room, to be honest,” said Frisby

“We’re
obviously massively happy to get the win after a relatively poor previous two
weeks by our own standards, but there’s a lot of frustration in there as well.

“We know we
can still be a lot better, and we probably made it a lot harder than it needed
to be.

“We’re very
relived to get the win though.”

After an
opening quarter that saw Frisby follow captain Callum Gibbins in crossing the
whitewash, it was the Warriors defence that ultimately proved decisive under
the Scotstoun floodlights.

“It was
really pleasing to get off to that start – we’d spoken a lot about wanting to
do that, so to come out firing was great,” said the scrum-half.

“If I’m
honest, we probably relaxed for a bit after that. They really disrupted our
ball at the breakdown – Olly Robinson was superb, I don’t know how many
turnovers he ended up with.

“We couldn’t
really get into our flow as a result, and then when we did our accuracy let us
down too many times.

“It was a
frustrating last hour, but extremely satisfying to grind out the win.”

The
27-year-old was also impressed with fellow number nine Jamie Dobie, with the
man nine years his junior impressing after coming on as a second-half
replacement.

“It’s great
to see Jamie doing so well,” enthused Frisby.

“I don’t
think I’ve seen someone so young be as physically and mentally ready to play at
this level as he is. He’s a phenomenal talent, he really is.

“He’s a
great young kid and his work ethic is top class – he’s always keen to learn and
get better.”

With the
Guinness PRO14 taking a break this weekend, Frisby and his team-mates will be
making the most of their time off before returning to focus their attention on
the trip to face the Dragons on Saturday 26 October. The scrum-half is adamant
that Saturday night’s win will stand them in good stead ahead of their third
successive match against Welsh opposition.

“The first two weeks we didn’t play anywhere
near our best, and we knew that if we could play our game and stick to our
plans that the win would come,” said Frisby.

“We just had
to be patient and keep working hard.

“We’re
definitely heading in the right direction. The main goal was to get that first
win, and we’ve done that.”
