Edinburgh Rugby 31-25 Glasgow Warriors

27 Dec 2025

Hosts Edinburgh Rugby were able to come out on top during the first derby match of this season's Celtic Challenge competition, recording a 31-25 victory against Glasgow Warriors at Hive Stadium.

Glasgow Warriors had a strong foothold in the game during the early stages but an impressive defensive effort from Edinburgh kept the Warriors scoreless in the first 15 minutes.

After almost 20 minutes, Warriors were rewarded for their efforts as Beth Blacklock punctured through the defence to open the scoring (0-5).

Edinburgh started to show their danger in attack, as an initial break from Merryn Gunderson saw the hosts edge closer towards the whitewash, however, a knock-on put a halt to their efforts and Glasgow were soon able to clear their lines.

A strong driving maul deep inside Edinburgh’s territory set-up the perfect platform for Warriors’ next score and after several phases the ball went out wide to Hannah Smyth who crashed over into the corner (0-10).

Edinburgh’s response was swift as the hosts soon got their first points on the board through Aila Ronald who dotted down on the line, with Hannah Ramsay adding the extras (7-10).

Undeterred by Edinburgh’s try, the visitors were quickly able to launch another attack and were able to capitalise when Sky Phimister sprinted over the line to score (7-15).

As the interval approached, Edinburgh started to pose a threat to the Warriors and eventually went into the break only one-point behind following a try from Molly Poolman, with Ramsay slotting the conversion through the posts (14-15).

HALF-TIME: Edinburgh Rugby 14-15 Glasgow Warriors

Edinburgh kept the momentum going into the second-half, as winger Hannah Walker raced over the line to give the hosts the lead, with another conversion by Ramsay (21-15).

Buoyed by the tally on the scoreboard, the hosts raced back into action and were deep in Glasgow’s territory. The ball went quickly through the Edinburgh hands before eventually finding Cieron Bell who cantered over into the corner (26-15).

After another period of sustained pressure, Edinburgh were able to open up a bit of space on the scoreboard following a further try by Nicole Marlow (31-15).

Warriors showed great determination in the final stages of the match and were back on the board when co-captain Holland Bogan powered over the whitewash (31-20).

In a gutsy late comeback, the Warriors claimed another try through eventual Player of the Match, Bogan, with Blacklock’s conversion attempt just going wide ahead of the full-time whistle (31-25).

Speaking after the match, Glasgow Warriors co-captain Holland Bogan said: “It was a really difficult match. Edinburgh were always going to give us a tough encounter, especially at home but I’m so proud of the team today and I couldn’t have asked for more.”

“We’ve got a few things to work on but I know we will keep building throughout this competition.”
