Dobie extends Glasgow Warriors contract

Jamie Dobie has become the latest player to put pen to paper on a new deal with Glasgow Warriors, after the scrum-half agreed to extend his contract with Franco Smith’s squad.

The 21-year-old follows in the footsteps of fellow Scotland internationals including George Horne, Sione Tuipulotu and Jack Dempsey in committing his future to the Scotstoun outfit, as the club continues its preparations for Saturday’s BKT URC regular season finale at home to Connacht.

Having initially joined the club straight from school as an 18-year-old, Dobie has consistently impressed observers both within Scottish rugby circles and further afield with his rugby intelligence and speed of service around the breakdown.

The Inverness-born scrum-half, who made his professional debut away to the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein in the first match of the 2019/20 season, marked his first start for the club in headline-making fashion; the number nine produced a man-of-the-match winning performance against the Dragons at Scotstoun, receiving a standing ovation upon his departure from the pitch with 10 minutes remaining.

Dobie also spent time in New Zealand during the summer of 2022, linking up with Bay of Plenty for the opening rounds of the Mitre10 Cup as part of his preparations for the 2022/23 campaign.

He recently ran out for his 50th outing in Glasgow colours, starting on the wing in Friday night’s hard-earned 12-9 win over the Scarlets at Scotstoun.

A keen tennis player, Dobie has scored four tries for the club to date, most recently in the 31-21 win over the Emirates Lions that secured his team a spot in the EPCR Challenge Cup semi-finals.

His performances for the Warriors saw him earn a senior Scotland debut in October 2021, coming off the bench in a 60-14 win over Tonga at BT Murrayfield.

“I’ve absolutely loved the four years I’ve spent here so far,” Dobie told glasgowwarriors.org upon his re-signing.

“We’ve grown a lot and this season we’ve shown the benefits of the work we’ve put in over the last few months. We want to do something special as a group not only this season, but every season, and that’s something I want to be a part of.

“I’m really pleased with how my personal game is progressing; the coaching team here is fantastic to work with, and we’ve got a great group of players that really challenges each other and drives standards higher.

“Playing at the weekend is what we all want to be doing, and this season I’ve been really pleased with the game time I’ve had. I’ve been involved in some big fixtures and really enjoyed getting stuck in for this team, and that feeling when you win games like that is unbeatable. That’s what everyone plays for.

“Being out there with good friends and playing good rugby is what it’s all about, and hopefully we can give the Warrior Nation plenty to cheer about over the next few weeks.”

Head Coach Smith added: “We’re pleased to be able to secure Jamie’s services for the future, as he continues his development with us.

“He is a player who truly buys into what we are looking to build here at Scotstoun and he’s someone who always brings a great attitude to everything he does.

“To have reached 50 appearances for the club already is a testament to how he applies himself, and we look forward to continuing to work with him.”
