Darge voted McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for May

13 Jun 2025

Rory Darge paid tribute to the Warrior Nation after being voted as the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for May, taking home the final trophy of the 2024/25 campaign.

The openside claimed 47% of the vote from club supporters to emerge victorious, narrowly edging out Kyle Rowe (40%) to claim the accolade.

Darge once again was at the forefront in each of the club’s performances across the month of May, showcasing his skillset in both attack and defence for Franco Smith’s squad.

The 25-year-old beat 10 defenders with ball in hand against Benetton, equalling a league record for defenders beaten by a forward despite his side suffering defeat.

An all-action display then saw him claim Player of the Match honours in the BKT United Rugby Championship quarter-final win over the DHL Stormers, scoring a try and making 24 tackles from 24 attempts to drive his side to victory.

Darge will lead Scotland in this summer’s Skyscanner Pacific Tour, having been named as tour captain by Head Coach Gregor Townsend.

“It’s a really cool feeling to be voted for by the fans,” Darge told glasgowwarriors.org.

“The supporters mean so much to this club and everyone here at Scotstoun, so to get their vote means a lot. It was obviously an up and down end to the season, but I feel like there were some really strong performances in there, particularly in the quarter-final win over the Stormers.

“It’s been a rollercoaster of a season with some real highs and lows, but while we’re disappointed by those lows, we know we have plenty to build on ahead of next season. There’s some great talent coming through and we know that we need to just keep pushing on and striving to be the best.

“I can’t thank the supporters enough for their support across the season. We never take that support for granted and the atmosphere they create at Scotstoun makes such a difference. The atmosphere at that Stormers game is right up there with the best I’ve ever experienced at Scotstoun, and you saw how much the team and the crowd fed off each other.

“Even away from home, there have been a few games now where you do the lap at the end of the game and there’s so many of the Warrior Nation in the stands – we really appreciate all the support and look forward to seeing you all again next season.”

As part of the award, Darge earns a donation to a charity of his choice courtesy of McCrea Financial Services, with the openside pledging his support to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

“We get to see the difference that the Glasgow Children’s Hospital team make every time we go in to visit the families in the hospital over the festive period, but also around our Plaster It Purple fixture,” said Darge.

“They make such a difference to the lives of those not only within their care, but within their community. It’s a wonderful charity and I’m happy to be able to support them with this donation.”
