Four Glasgow Warriors selected for The British & Irish Lions Series 2025

Four Glasgow Warriors selected for The British & Irish Lions Series 2025

Four Glasgow Warriors will pull on the most famous red jersey in rugby union this summer, after British & Irish Lions Head Coach, Andy Farrell, named the quartet in his 38-strong squad for the 2025 tour of Australia.

The selection of Scott Cummings, Zander Fagerson, Huw Jones and Sione Tuipulotu sees Glasgow Warriors produce the joint second-highest number of players to the touring group, whilst also setting a club record for players selected in a British & Irish Lions touring squad.

Born and raised in Glasgow, second-rower Cummings has become a fixture in the engine room for club and country since making his professional debut in 2015, the former Glasgow Hawk visibly emotional as he was mobbed by team-mates after being the first Warrior to be announced during the live unveiling.

He was swiftly followed in the pack by fellow club centurion Fagerson, who will tour with the Lions for the second time after being part of Warren Gatland’s squad during the 2021 tour of South Africa.

The name of Jones was the first to be read out upon the announcement of the touring backs, following a campaign that saw the centre top the try-scoring charts for Scotland during the 2025 Guinness Six Nations.

Tuipulotu capped off a memorable afternoon for Glasgow’s players, backroom team and supporters when his name was called by tour chairman Ieuan Evans, after a campaign that has seen the centre underline his reputation as one of the sport’s premier midfielders with a series of Player of the Match-winning performances in Glasgow colours.

Congratulating his players following selection, Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Franco Smith told glasgowwarriors.org: “We are all extremely proud of our boys for being selected for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia.

“Scott, Zander, Huw and Sione have each contributed significantly for club and country over recent seasons, and the reaction of everyone in the room when the announcement was made spoke volumes about the culture within our environment.

“Their selection is also a reflection of the hard work put in by everyone here at Glasgow Warriors; our medical and strength and conditioning teams have worked with each of the quartet this season to put them in prime physical condition, and our coaching group have worked closely with them to help them be the best versions of themselves.

“Our Lions are superb examples to our young players here at Scotstoun and to young players across Scotland, and we look forward to cheering them on as they tour Australia in the famous red jersey.”

Managing Director, Al Kellock, added: “On behalf of everyone at Glasgow Warriors, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to the four players selected for the 2025 British & Irish Lions squad.

“This is a moment of immense pride not just for the individuals involved, but for the entire club and our supporters. To have four Warriors named—the most we’ve ever had in a single Lions tour—is a historic achievement and a testament to the hard work, consistency, and character shown by these players.

“The selection highlights the strength and depth of our squad and the positive environment we’ve built at Scotstoun. It’s a clear reflection of the standards we hold ourselves to and the direction we’re heading as a club. We’re all incredibly proud and will be backing our lads every step of the way.”
