Smith voted as One Four Nine Wealth Warrior of the Month for October

Ollie Smith has emerged victorious from a tightly-contested poll to be named as the One Four Nine Wealth Warrior of the Month for October, after an impressive start to the BKT United Rugby Championship campaign.

The 25-year-old earned 31% of the public vote to claim the club’s monthly award, narrowly edging out Matt Fagerson (29% and Jamie Dobie (28%) to take home the trophy.

Having also been nominated for the September award, Smith’s form continued to shine throughout the month of October as he helped his side to a top-three spot in the BKT URC at the close of the opening block of fixtures.

Having started the season on the wing, outings at both outside centre and full-back showcased the Marr product’s versatility, in addition to his strong running and tactical kicking game.

Smith was one of 13 Warriors selected for Scotland in the opening match of the Quilter Nations Series, scoring his country’s 13th and final try in an 85-0 victory over the USA at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

“To be recognised with this award is a great honour, especially since it’s been voted for by the supporters,” Smith told glasgowwarriors.org.

“It’s been a strong start to the season for the squad – we’ve had some good wins both home and away, so just to be a part of that is really special.

“Franco [Smith] has been pretty open about his desire to have players capable of playing across multiple positions, so I’m happy to be able to help out with being versatile in the back-line. Whether that’s on the wing, in the centre or at full-back, I’m happy wherever I’m picked and happy to do what I need to do to help the team. Who knows, I might get a shift in the forwards one day!

“We’ve got a great group of players at Glasgow and we all want to keep our form and keep pushing forwards. We know December is going to be a massive month for us, both with the Investec Champions Cup kicking off and then the 1872 Cup double-header. I’m excited to get stuck into all of that and keep putting my hand up in a Glasgow jersey.”
