The winger becomes the first Warrior to be nominated for the prize since 2017, when Finn Russell and Stuart Hogg – who went on to win the award – were amongst those shortlisted following the conclusion of the championship.
Steyn started all five of Scotland’s matches in the championship, featuring prominently across the competition to help the men in blue to a third-place finish.
No player beat more defenders than Steyn’s tally of 26 across the championship, six clear of fellow nominee Tommaso Menoncello.
The winger also crossed for three tries, two of them coming in the 50-40 victory over France at Scottish Gas Murrayfield in a win that would ultimately deny Les Bleus the Grand Slam.
Steyn’s championship also included Player of the Match awards against both England and France, dominating the aerial contest and continuing his standout form in a Glasgow shirt across the 2025/26 campaign.
Speaking following the news, Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Franco Smith praised his club captain, telling glasgowwarriors.org: “We see the hard work and dedication Kyle turns in day in, day out at Scotstoun, and he is a true Warrior that is passionate about not only becoming the best version of himself, but also driving the standards of those around him.
“To see his efforts recognised on the international stage for Scotland is testament to him, and everyone at Glasgow Warriors is extremely proud of him.”
