Having recorded over a century of points in each of their opening two victories over Samoa and Hong Kong China, Murray’s squad know that a win over the similarly unbeaten Japanese will see them earn a shot at promotion to next year’s World Rugby U20 Championship – a tier not reached by Scotland since 2019.
After coming off the bench to crash over for the final try in the 101-0 victory over Hong Kong China on Saturday, Ryan Burke comes in to start in the second-row for the clash with Japan.
He is joined by another try-scorer from that match behind the scrum, as Johnny Ventisei retains his place at outside centre for the winner-takes-all showdown.
Fergus Watson makes it a trio of Glasgow prospects in the starting XV, the Biggar RFC product another to be promoted to the lineup after being named at full-back for Friday night’s match.
Three further Warriors rotate to the bench after starting against Hong Kong China last time out, as Callum Norrie – a try-scorer against Samoa in round one – wears the number 18 jersey.
Ruaraidh Hart likewise is named amongst the replacements, the second-rower having served as vice-captain in the win over Hong Kong China.
Kerr Yule rounds out the Glasgow cohort, after an energetic showing in the centres for Murray’s men last time out.
