Samuel voted One Four Nine Wealth Men’s Warrior of the Month for March

Alex Samuel has been named as the One Four Nine Wealth Men’s Warrior of the Month for March, emerging victorious from a closely-fought poll of the Warrior Nation to take the trophy.

The second-rower took home 34% of the public vote, narrowly edging out Kyle Rowe and Johnny Ventisei to take the plaudits in a month that saw the Warriors go unbeaten in their BKT United Rugby Championship outings.

Samuel made an immediate impression upon his return to Glasgow Warriors action following the conclusion of the Guinness Six Nations, leading the defensive effort in a Player of the Match-winning display in the victory over Leinster at Scotstoun.

The Scotland second-rower made all 20 of his attempted tackles, a tally that included thunderous hits upon opposing second-rowers RG Snyman and Brian Deeny.

A product of Madras RFC, he then made an impact off the bench six days later, helping his side to a 31-10 victory over Benetton that consolidated their position at the top of the BKT URC standings.

Samuel was presented with the award by a selection of the participants at the club’s FOSROC Easter Camps at Scotstoun, as preparations continue for this weekend’s Investec Champions Cup clash with RC Toulon.

“I’m really grateful to the supporters for voting for me – it’s nice to get the recognition,” the second-rower told glasgowwarriors.org.

“It’s been a big month for the club – the Connacht game during the middle of the Six Nations obviously didn’t go the way we wanted it to go, but I’m glad that we steadied the ship with a big performance in that Leinster game and then backed it up with the five points against Benetton.

“I’ve had quite a frustrating time over the last year or two with injuring, and then re-injuring my shoulder, but I’m feeling good and enjoying being involved. It’s a big time of the year for the club and I just want to contribute as much as I can.

“To get the job done at the weekend against the Bulls was massive – Scotstoun was bouncing on Saturday, and I’ve got no doubt it’ll be the same again this weekend against Toulon. It’s a huge game and up another level once more, so we know we’ll need to be at our best.”
