Darge to captain Scotland as Richardson called up

10 Jun 2025

Rory Darge will captain Scotland on this summer’s Skyscanner Pacific Tour, after the openside flanker was one of 15 Glasgow Warriors selected by Head Coach Gregor Townsend.

The 25-year-old assumes the captaincy on a solo basis after serving as co-captain for the Guinness Six Nations earlier this year, as the squad prepares to face the Māori All Blacks, Fiji and Samoa on consecutive weekends next month.

Fin Richardson is the sole uncapped Warrior amongst the 36-strong playing group, the tight-head rewarded for an impressive debut campaign at Scotstoun with a first official call-up to a senior Scotland squad after travelling as an apprentice player to Chile and Uruguay last summer.

Richardson is one of seven Glasgow Warriors forwards included in the squad heading to New Zealand for the opening match of the tour, with Matt Fagerson and Gregor Brown both selected as they continue their recovery from their respective injuries.

Nathan McBeth will look to add to his tally of two caps after winning both on last summer’s tour of the Americas, as he joins fellow loose-head Rory Sutherland amongst the prop options available to Townsend and his coaching team.

Max Williamson returns to the Scotland setup for the first time since last November, having missed out on the Guinness Six Nations due to an injury sustained against South Africa last autumn.

Behind the scrum, George Horne and Jamie Dobie are named amongst the scrum-halves selected by Townsend and his coaching group, with both men having scored in Saturday’s BKT URC semi-final defeat to Leinster at the Aviva Stadium.

Tom Jordan is set for his first summer tour in Scotland colours after a memorable first season as an international, as the playmaker joins Adam Hastings and Stafford McDowall on the plane to New Zealand.

Ollie Smith could win his first Scotland cap since the 2023 Rugby World Cup following his impressive return to action in 2025, whilst Kyle Steyn and Kyle Rowe – the latter having crossed for a brace in the BKT URC quarter-final win over the DHL Stormers to take his record for Glasgow Warriors to a try in every other match for the club – complete the cohort of Warriors selected.
