15 Warriors selected in Scotland squad for summer tour

Three uncapped players are amongst the 15 Glasgow Warriors selected in the Scotland squad for the upcoming Skyscanner Americas Tour, which will see Gregor Townsend’s side take on Canada, the USA, Chile and Uruguay on successive weekends next month.

Gregor Brown, Nathan McBeth and Max Williamson each see their form across the 2023/24 season rewarded with a first senior Scotland call-up, having all previously been invited to train with Townsend’s setup over the campaign to date.

The trio have made a total of 46 appearances between them across the season so far, each playing a key role in Glasgow’s progression to the final four of the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Incoming signings Adam Hastings and Rory Sutherland are also included amongst the 36-strong playing group in addition to the 15 current Warriors that will assemble at Oriam in the coming weeks, giving the Warrior Nation an opportunity to view the new additions in action prior to their arrival at Scotstoun.

Huw Jones is the most-capped Warrior selected amongst the travelling party, the centre set to win his 50th cap for his country if he features in two of the Test matches on tour.

Jamie Dobie and Murphy Walker are both in contention to win their first caps since last summer, the pair having won their second and third caps respectively in the Rugby World Cup warm-up win over Italy at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

Stafford McDowall is another looking to add to his single-figure caps tally to date, the centre coming off an outstanding 2023/24 in Glasgow colours that saw the centre voted as the Deholm Energy Services Players’ Player of the Season.

Sione Tuipulotu returns to the Scotland squad after a barnstorming run-in for the Warriors, having been a mainstay in the Glasgow midfield since recovering from a knee injury sustained in the Guinness Six Nations.

Rory Darge and George Horne will board the plane to the Americas in fine form, having taken home Player of the Match honours in consecutive Glasgow victories against Zebre Parma and the DHL Stormers in the past fortnight.

Squad ever-presents Matt Fagerson and Scott Cummings are once again given the nod by Gregor Townsend and his coaching team, the pair having featured in every Scotland Test match in 2024 to date.

Ross Thompson and Kyle Rowe also receive call-ups for the upcoming quartet of Tests, having both featured on Scotland’s last tour to the Americas in the summer of 2022.

Club captain Kyle Steyn completes the Glasgow contingent, the winger looking to add to his impressive strike rate of 11 tries in 19 Scotland appearances to date.

In addition, Ben Afshar and incoming signing Fin Richardson will also join the tour for the final two matches against Chile and Uruguay, the pair having been selected as development players by Townsend and his coaching team.

All games will be shown live in the UK and Ireland, with broadcast details confirmed in due course by Scottish Rugby.
