Nine Warriors selected for Calcutta Cup showdown

Scotland Head Coach Gregor Townsend has named nine Glasgow Warriors in the matchday 23 that will take on England at Scottish Gas Murrayfield this Saturday, as Scotland look to defend the oldest trophy in international rugby for a fourth successive season.

Eight of the nine Warriors selected retain their places in the matchday 23 from the clash with France last time out, with Kyle Steyn the sole exception after being a late withdrawal to attend the birth of his first child.

The squad is co-captained by Rory Darge, the openside having jointly led his county in a Guinness Six Nations clash for the first time in the round two meeting with France.

Zander Fagerson starts at tight-head, having turned in a full 80-minute shift against the French last time out.

George Turner packs down alongside Fagerson, the hooker starting his third successive match in the middle of Scotland’s front-row.

Scott Cummings similarly makes his third start in succession, the second-rower having been one of Scotland’s stand-out performers in the competition to date.

Jack Dempsey joins Darge in the back-row, packing down at number eight after an industrious display against the French a fortnight ago.

Behind the scrum, Sione Tuipulotu once again serves as vice-captain to co-captains Darge and Finn Russell, the centre having made his Guinness Six Nations debut in the Calcutta Cup back in 2022.

Huw Jones partners Tuipulotu in the midfield, the pair having linked up for a memorable try in last year’s victory over England at Twickenham.

Steyn returns to the matchday squad to line up on the wing, having also been involved in last year’s victory over the Auld Enemy.

George Horne rounds out the Glasgow contingent by retaining his spot amongst the replacements, the scrum-half having been an unused substitute against the French last time out.

Supporters can watch the match live on BBC One this Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 4.45pm.
