Four alterations for Edinburgh clash

Four alterations for Edinburgh clash

A Glasgow Warriors squad showing four changes from last weekend’s Celtic Challenge defeat in Cork will run out at Scotstoun tomorrow afternoon, as Lindsey Smith’s side host Edinburgh for the first time in the competition.

The side includes a first appearance in Glasgow colours for Emily Norval, who lines up on the wing for the first visit of the capital outfit to the home of the Warriors.

Ailie Tucker captains the squad from loose-head after an impressive 80-minute performance last time out, with Katie Lindsay returning to the starting XV to join the captain and Aicha Sutcliffe in the front-row.

Kate Yeomans comes into the lineup to pack down alongside Holland Bogan in the second-row, the pair having also started together in the engine room in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

An unchanged back-row sees Freya Walker and Gemma Bell continue on the flanks, with Emily Coubrough completing the trio by lining up at number eight.

Mairi McDonald starts once more at scrum-half, as squad vice-captain Ceitidh Ainsworth coming back into the starting lineup to partner the Scotland international in the half-backs.

Briar McNamara and Orla Proctor are retained in the midfield, the former having crossed for one of Glasgow’s three tries in Cork last weekend.

Norval joins Abi Evans as the wingers for tomorrow’s clash, as Poppy Mellanby shifts to full-back in place of the injured Sky Phimister.

Two more potential debutants await amongst the replacements, with Poppy Fletcher and Rianna Darroch in line for a first appearance in a Glasgow Warriors jersey should they come off the bench.

Megan Hyland and Eilidh Fleming join Fletcher as the front-row replacements, with Aisha Zameer and Eilidh MacGilvray completing the options up front for Smith and her coaching team.

The matchday 23 is rounded out by Lisa Martin and Millie Warren, the latter having taken to the field for the first time in the campaign in Cork last weekend.

Speaking following selection, Head Coach Smith told glasgowwarriors.org: “We’re excited by the prospect of our first-ever derby match at Scotstoun, with everyone wanting to be involved this weekend.

“We know what Edinburgh will bring and how dangerous a side they can be, which in turn has sharpened our own focus ahead of tomorrow afternoon.

“We’ve proved that we can score points when we create the opportunity, and now it’s about putting a full 80-minute performance together in front of our supporters.”
