Former Glasgow Warriors centre Ferguson arrives at Scotstoun from his previous role within the coaching set-up with Hong Kong China 7s, having previously gained valuable experience coaching with Team GB’s women’s 7s.

He joins the women’s team at a hugely exciting time following the addition of nine new players earlier this summer in preparation for the 2026/27 Celtic Challenge season.

Fergusson will join Glasgow Warriors following his commitments to Hong Kong China 7s.

In addition to his 7s coaching experience, Fergusson was also assistant coach at hometown club Ayr RFC, where he previously played.

He later moved into the Director of Rugby role at Ayr RFC & Ayrshire Bulls, taking responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the rugby department while helping align coaching philosophy, player development and performance culture across senior and pathway programmes.

During an illustrious playing career that ended in the summer of 2024, Fergusson played for both Scotland 7s and Great Britain 7s and competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 and two Commonwealth Games.

Fergusson also gained 50 HSBC World Sevens Series caps including captaining Great Britain on the HSBC SVNS Series for two years between 2022 and 2024.

Before establishing himself as one of the most valuable players on the international 7s circuit, Fergusson represented Scotland at age-grades through to U20s level, featuring at the Junior World Championships in 2012 and 2013 (where Scotland finished ninth and tenth respectively).

His club career saw him achieve a domestic double with Ayr in 2013, before a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma the following year aged just 20 saw his career put on pause to focus on his recovery.

After making a full recovery, Fergusson soon earned a contract with Glasgow Warriors. He would make his professional debut for the club in 2015, before a spell with London Scottish followed by a return to play at Scotstoun.

Fergusson will support Scotland Women in the role of assistant coach with the national team for the period of WXV Global Series.

Commenting on his appointment as Glasgow Warriors women’s Head Coach, Robbie Fergusson, said: “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity ahead. I know the club well and how ambitious it is, and it’s an exciting time for the women’s game in Scotland.

“I’m keen to help contribute to both the success and development of a strong Glasgow Warriors women’s team.”

Scottish Rugby Head of Women’s Performance and Pathways, Andy Rhys-Jones, added: “After a thorough recruitment process, we are pleased to appoint Robbie as Head Coach of Glasgow Warriors.

“Robbie is an exciting coach who has experienced a wide range of high-performance environments throughout his playing and coaching career.

Those experiences have given him a strong understanding of the standards required to build a successful programme. Having previously represented Glasgow Warriors, he also brings a first-hand understanding of the club’s identity and ambitions.

“With an exciting Celtic Challenge season ahead and several new players joining the squad at Scotstoun, we look forward to seeing Robbie lead the programme through its next phase of development.”

Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Kenny Brown, added: “Robbie’s appointment is another exciting step for our women’s team ahead of the 2026/27 season in the Celtic Challenge.

“His experience and ambition make him a fantastic fit for this role, and we are looking forward to seeing the programme continue to grow under his leadership.”
