Glasgow Warriors fought hard against RC Toulon and secured two points in the second round of the Investec Champions Cup yesterday.  Kyle Rowe was right in the thick of it and shares his thoughts on the game.

“We came into this game obviously wanting to win.  We knew we had the power to beat them, but it just wasn’t to be.

“To fall a point short, it’s not any way you want to lose a game, but we have shown we can go toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the world. We can take positives from it, but now all eyes are on Edinburgh next week.”

Glasgow knew going into the game that RC Toulon would be a tough team to face, especially at home. Despite scoring four tries (penalty try, McKay, Oguntibeju, Matthews), Toulon edged ahead through penalty kicks to keep their score ticking up.

Speaking of how the French side play and his role within the team, Rowe said, “You know the game is going to be a bit more open against these French teams.

“I just want to get my hands on the ball.  It’s what I’m picked to do, it’s my job within the team.”

One big game a week, is the life of a professional rugby player and with Edinburgh coming up next weekend all focus is on getting prepared for that.

“Rest up and recover is the plan.  Monday will be chilled with recovery at home and seeing family. Tuesday we are straight into it.  Get the body right and all eyes focused on Edinburgh.”

With this years 1872 Cup set to have record crowds as Hampden Park will host the Glasgow leg, Rowe talks about his excitement of playing there.

“We were watching the Celtic v Rangers game, and seeing it packed out, and just knowing that we are going to be playing there is just crazy.

“Even with 20 or 30 thousand people there it’s going to be an amazing atmosphere!”
