Ritchie ready to kick on as a Warrior

It’s been a long time coming, but on Saturday the Warrior Nation got their first glimpse of a sight they’ve been waiting for since June.
Running out at blindside flanker in Glasgow colours at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo was a certain Jamie Ritchie, the Scotland star suiting up for the first time since his summer arrival from USA Perpignan.
Having made over 100 appearances for Edinburgh during his illustrious career to date, the sight of Ritchie wearing a Glasgow Warriors shirt may take some getting used to – but rest assured that the man himself is fully dialled in to life as a Warrior.
“It did feel a little bit strange to start with!” said Ritchie post-match in Treviso.
“The boys have all been super welcoming though, right from when I first came in over summer and we were training away from Scotstoun. It’s something that’s been coming for a while, and I’m excited to get stuck in with the boys.”

A trademark all-action performance saw the flanker make an immediate impression on his first run-out for Franco Smith’s squad, playing his part in a hard-fought 24-20 victory over Benetton to continue Glasgow’s unbeaten start to the campaign.
“My body took a wee bit longer to come back than I’d perhaps have hoped, but I’m feeling good,” said Ritchie.
“I’m delighted to have got back out there and to have got through the full 80 – I probably wasn’t expecting that! I felt a wee bit rusty here and there in a few of my touches, but I feel good and I’m glad to be back playing.”
With one more fixture – a home clash with the 10bet Lions this Friday – lying in wait before the return of international rugby this November, there will be plenty more opportunities for Ritchie to take to the field in the coming weeks, be that at Scotstoun or Scottish Gas Murrayfield.
For Ritchie, though, the focus is fully on the next task at hand, rather than looking any further ahead.
“My main concern today was honestly just getting through my first game back – I’ve played three games of rugby now since March, so I’m just glad to be back out there,” he said.
“Every time I step out on the field though, I want to do the best that I can, no matter what jersey I’m wearing, and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”
