‘We got more tries than we were expecting which was awesome to see’ | Jamie Dobie

A six-try win for Glasgow gave them their first bonus-point win of the season. Jamie Dobie scored the fourth try to bag Glasgow’s five points.

Glasgow Warriors returned to Scotstoun for Round 2 of the BKT United Rugby Championship. Facing Italian side Benetton, the Warriors wanted to improve on their performance from last week. They certainly did.

Six tries scored by the Warriors proved entertaining for fans, with plenty of action in both halves of the game.

Playing the ball wide, some glorious tries were set up using the wings, passing the ball back inside to score several tries underneath the posts. Matt Fagerson scored a fantastic try from a solid line-break; Kyle Steyn scored two tries; Rory Darge bagged one down the wing. But it was Jamie Dobie who scored the crucial bonus-point try.

“It was great to get the bonus-point try. It feels really good and wonderful to be back at Scotstoun, putting out a performance like that,” Jamie said.

“I think we did a lot of good stuff last week. Considering the place where we are in the season right now, we’re in a good position. Last week we got on the wrong side of the result so to come out and get as many tries as we could and put Benetton to bed was a great feeling.”

Glasgow Warriors certainly ironed out their learnings from Round 1’s narrow defeat against Ulster at Kingspan Stadium. Against Benetton, Glasgow had more ball in attack and that certainly converted onto the scoreboard.

“We took the learnings from Ulster, especially in attack. Our defence is solid, and we put in a strong shift last week. Sorting out our attack this week—our system and shape formations—paid good dividends.

“We got more tries than we were expecting which was awesome to see.”

Jamie commented how great it was to be back on home turf playing in front of Glasgow’s fervent supporters: “They were amazing – awesome.”

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a URC game at Scotstoun,” Jamie added. “So many fans came out for the Friday night game and we hope that performances like that means they can enjoy the game and have something to be proud of.”
