Rennie pleased with Munster win as squad depart for South Africa
9 Sep 2018
A trio of first-half tries saw the Warriors take command of the game from the outset, before a resolute rear-guard effort saw the hosts close out the result.
“I thought we were really good, especially in the first-half,” said Rennie.
“We were a little bit loose with ball in hand in the second-half so we had to defend more than we should have, but we’re rapt with the impact off the bench and the fact we built some good shifts around our discipline.”
On a night where all 23 of the Warriors squad played their part, it was Adam Hastings who took home the Guinness Man of the Match award after creating two of his side’s three tries. Rennie praised the young fly-half, yet also highlighted the impact of the pack in securing an impressive win.
He said: “The boys up front have taken a bit of criticism in recent times, but we’re delighted with the effort they’ve put in.
“Our scrum has been dominant, and we’ve benefitted from penalties as a result. Our line-out drive has been superb too, and it was a real step up in performance from last week.
“Adam is definitely going well for us now – I thought he was excellent.”
Despite missing out on a try bonus-point, the result sees Glasgow move joint top of the conference in the early stages of the season as they prepare to set off for a brace of matches in South Africa. The Warriors boss is already pinpointing areas to work on in the lead-up to their next match, which sees his side take on the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
“You want to pick up bonus points, and to have scored three tries before half-time – we should probably have sealed it before the break to be honest,” said Rennie.
“They denied us possession in the second-half, but we had a couple of opportunities from turnovers that we couldn’t quite capitalise on. I thought we’d snuck one late, but our defence put us in the position to win tonight. We just need to be a bit more clinical next week.”
