It’s the quarter-finals of the Investec Champions Cup and Glasgow Warriors are on the road to Dublin to face Leinster at the Aviva Stadium.

Both teams had strong Round of 16 games, with Glasgow putting on a performance at Scotstoun against Leicester Tigers, and Leinster putting 62 points on Harlequins.

Leinster are the bookies favourites against the Glasgow side with previous records showing the Irish outfit as the stronger of the two.

Glasgow are current United Rugby Champions, an accolade that still escapes Leinster.  It is clear that with the current standings in the URC this top of the table clash will be a strong performance of top level rugby.

Leinster named their team, as expected with their internationalist featuring throughout.  Sam Prendergast, was Player of the Match in their win over Harlequins and will be keen to back that performance up.

Glasgow are still missing key players, with Zander Fagerson being the latest International out with an injury.  However, the Tongan Sione Vailanu has been on incredible form since his return and scored two tries last weekend in displays of sheer power. George Horne has been racking up tries since breaking the record and will be keen to continue to add to his tally.

In Europe, Glasgow finished second in their pool after strong wins over Sale Sharks and Racing 92.  The side scored more tries than anyone else in their pool and are currently the top try scoring side in the URC.  Glasgow will be keen to showcase their strong attacking ability and try scoring prowess.

Similarly, in Leinster’s pool, despite topping the group, they scored less tries than other teams. However their four wins from four guaranteed them home advantage moving forward.

Regardless of the stats, or how the teams measure up on paper, this is European knockout rugby in its finest form. It’s a game for the taking and the history books for both teams.
