Glasgow Warriors currently sit second in the league table with Dragons sitting at the bottom.  Despite this large points difference, both teams will likely be without international players due to the Guinness Men’s Six Nations, which could make the game more competitive.

The Dragons have won just one game so far this season in round one against the Ospreys.  Despite just one win, they have been scoring tries and losing by one or two scores in many games.  The last time Dragons beat a Scottish opponent was in March 2021 with a closed-door victory over Edinburgh.

For Glasgow, they have won four out of their last five games, with the one loss being away to Edinburgh in the second leg of the 1872 Cup. The last time Glasgow faced Dragons at Rodney Parade won 42-28 with tries from Sebastian Cancelliere, Fraser Brown, Cole Forbes and Stafford McDowall.

This weekend is likely to see the Argentine Cancelliere look to continue his try scoring form of late, and the potential to recreate his try-scoring intercept from the last trip to Newport.

With many Glasgow players being in the Scotland squad, Duncan Weir could be the one to captain the squad once more.  Weir has previously put 105 points in total over the Dragons, which could make him a threat to the Dragons on the park. Johnny Matthews, a likely choice for Franco Smith, as last season’s URC top try scorer will be keen to add some more tries to his tally for this season.

With many young players stepping up during the international period, Duncan Munn should be one to watch in the midfield for Glasgow.  The centre, enjoyed a full 80 minutes against Connacht, demonstrating his play making ability and his defensive efforts, which ultimately helped the team to their victory.

Dragons have three players on international duty with Elliot Dee, Aaron Wainwright and Rhodri Williams all called up to Wales. Fly-half Lloyd Evans has scored 41 points for Dragons this season across the 10 games he has played.  The only player to have scored more point than him is Angus O’Brian, who has 43 points over 12 games.  Another potential threat comes in the form of Taine Basham, the back row player has 30 points under his belt with 11 games in hand.

Dragons will be keen to impress a home crowd on Sunday afternoon, while Glasgow Warriors will be looking to show that they can perform away from home during this international period.
