Glasgow Warriors travel to Stellenbosch to face the DHL Stormers in Round 6 of the URC.

After securing two losing-bonus points against a Springbok stocked Sharks squad in Round 5, Glasgow Warriors will be looking for a repeat of the 2023/24 quarterfinals against the Stormers this weekend.

Last time out, Glasgow Warriors defeated the Stormers 27-10 at Scotstoun Stadium on their way to secure the Championship title last season.

In all previous four clashes of the two sides, Glasgow have won three.

Whilst Glasgow Warriors three game winning run in the BKT United Rugby Championship ended with their 24-28 reversal at Hollywoodbets Sharks last weekend, Glasgow’s two tries in the final three minutes of the game displayed the Warriors’ resilience.

Huw Jones has scored three tries in his two appearances in the URC this season. The outside centre will certainly be a threat to the South African side if featured in the starting XV. Furthermore, consistent kicking from both Tom Jordan and Adam Hastings has been crucial throughout the campaign so far and will be again in the second game of Glasgow’s South Africa tour.

Glasgow have proven what it takes to secure points against experienced teams both in Round 5 and in the URC Final last season.

OPPOSITION LOWDOWN

The DHL Stormers currently sit 12th in the table. Due to the Currie Cup Final, the Stormers’ opening round game was postponed. Their table position certainly does not indicate the wealth of talent in their squad.

Stormers fly-half Juriee Matthee has the best kicking record in the league so far this season. Consistency has secured Matthee a one hundred percent record.

Leolin Zas is another player to watch out for in the South African side. The utility back has scored three tries in his four appearances this season.

DHL Stormers doubled their tally of wins this campaign with their 34-19 victory at home to Munster on Saturday.

The hosts this weekend also have an impressive home record. Stormers only home defeat in the Championship since the 2023 final was to Ospreys at DHL Stadium in April.

However, the Stormers are not playing at their home ground this weekend. Rather, the fixture is being played at Danie Craven Stadium.

History is in Glasgow’s favour: the two sides have met on four previous occasions with Stormers only victory being 32-7 at DHL Stadium in April 2022. The Warriors will be determined to secure a fourth win against the Stormers on Saturday.
