Flynn captains Scotland Women U20

Nicole Flynn will captain Scotland U20 for the first time tomorrow night, after the centre was selected to lead out her nation against Wales in their second match of the U20 Six Nations Summer Series.

The Stirling County product is one of 11 Glasgow Warriors in the matchday 23 for the clash at Ystrad Mynach, with Louise Dalgliesh’s squad looking to bounce back from defeat to England on matchday one.

Flynn switches from full-back to outside centre in addition to assuming the captaincy, having made her Glasgow Warriors debut against Welsh opposition when running out against Brython Thunder at Scotstoun earlier this year.

Her positional switch allows Poppy Mellanby to start for the first time at U20 level, an impressive cameo off the bench last time out having seen the Biggar RFC prospect cap her U20 debut with a try against England.

Mellanby’s fellow try-scorer in matchday one, Emily Norval, continues on the wing, having finished impressively in the corner for her opening score of the Summer Series – and as a Scotland U20 player – on Saturday evening.

The all-Glasgow half-back combination is unchanged, meaning Rianna Darroch and Ceitidh Ainsworth continue in the scrum-half and fly-half jerseys respectively.

Similarly, all three of the Glasgow Warriors front-rowers are retained for tomorrow’s clash, as Aicha Sutcliffe packs down between Poppy Fletcher and Eilidh Fleming at the coal face.

Aisha Zameer also retains her place in the engine room, the University of Strathclyde alumna continuing her impressive 2024/25 campaign.

Emily Coubrough comes into the starting XV having missed out on the meeting with England, the number eight having made more carries for Glasgow Warriors in the Celtic Challenge than any other player.

Megan Hyland once again completes the Glasgow contingent, the Garioch RFC hooker awaiting her opportunity from the replacements bench.

Supporters can watch the match live on the U20 Six Nations YouTube channel tomorrow evening, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm.
