MATCH REPORT | Leinster 52-0 Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors’ Investec Champions Cup campaign came to a disappointing conclusion in Dublin, as a clinical Leinster side ran out 52-0 winners at the Aviva Stadium to book their place in the semi-finals.
In a match that saw the reigning BKT United Rugby Championship winners face one of Europe’s most experienced and decorated sides, the Warriors were unable to gain a foothold as the hosts produced a dominant all-round performance.
Leinster struck early through Max Deegan, and despite a disallowed try from Jordie Barrett following a TMO intervention, the home side quickly resumed their momentum.
A penalty try midway through the first half—combined with a yellow card to Adam Hastings—further tilted the momentum against the Warriors.
With the Warriors down to 14 men, Leinster made the most of their advantage, scoring through James Lowe and Tommy O’Brien before Hugo Keenan finished off a well-weighted kick through from Sam Prendergast. By half-time, the hosts led 33-0.
Glasgow showed moments of attacking intent, with Kyle Rowe nearly breaking through in the first half, but Leinster’s cover defence proved resolute, and chances were few and far between for Franco Smith’s side.
The second half continued in similar fashion, as Garry Ringrose and Dan Sheehan added further tries, before Deegan crossed again late on to complete the scoring and cap a commanding performance from the four-time European champions.
The Warriors’ night was further marred by an injury to Matt Fagerson, who was forced off in the second half with what appeared to be a leg injury. The Scotland international will be assessed by the club’s medical team in the coming days.
Despite the result, this season’s Champions Cup run marks Glasgow’s return to the last eight of Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2019.
Attention now shifts to the URC with a trip to Zebre next Saturday followed by a replay of last year’s final at Scotstoun with the Bulls visiting on Friday 25 April.
