Match Preview | Connacht | Away

It’s BKT United Rugby Championship Round 2 this weekend and Glasgow Warriors are travelling to face Connacht on Saturday afternoon.

Glasgow, fresh from their win over Leinster in Round 1, will be keen to add another win to their campaign.

Of the six times Glasgow and Connacht have faced each other in recent years, Glasgow have won five times, with Connacht’s only win being in October 2020. Connacht have won their five last home games at The Sportsground and will be hoping to add a sixth consecutive home win to their streak.  Something that they have not had since 2019.

The last time the two teams played each other was at Scotstoun in April 2023, with Glasgow winning 29-27.  The game saw Glasgow score four tries with three successful conversions to Connacht’s three tries and two conversions. Johnny Matthews got Glasgow’s fourth try and secured the bonus point for the team.  Something he will be aiming to do again should he be selected for this weekend’s fixture.

It’s likely that once again Glasgow will have some experienced players back from their World Cup campaign in the squad mixed with the younger talent coming through.  Last weekend saw Angus Fraser have his first start and score his first try for the club, showing just what talent is pushing through the squad at Scotstoun.

Connacht will still be without their Ireland internationals as they continue to be rested following the World Cup.  Despite this, Connacht have still had a strong pre-season with games against both Edinburgh and Munster, coming away with a win over Edinburgh and a close loss to URC Winners Munster. They also won their opening fixture against Ospreys last weekend in the URC.

Both teams will be looking forward to the challenge the other with bring to the pitch on Saturday. With the winner starting off their URC campaign in strong form with two from two.
