“The physicality of these games are good” | Gregor Brown
Glasgow Warriors played their last game of 2024 at Scottish Gas Murrayfield against Edinburgh. Despite not securing the win, the Glasgow side will retain the 1872 Cup for the third year running.
. E“Obviously we are really disappointed with the result.” Gregor Brown said, speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, “Edinburgh really battered up today and they came after our breakdown really hard and slowed us down.
“We struggled to get that quick ball that we really strive off. But fair play to Edinburgh, they really stepped up and we just weren’t good enough today.”
The game was a very physical clash and being in the forward pack, Brown was often in the thick of it.
“The physicality of these games are good. There were some really long phases of play today.
“Some really long D sets, and we came out on the right side of a few of them. Even though you are absolutely blown out, it really does just lift the energy in those moments.”
Even though Edinburgh took the win today, Glasgow will still take one point from the game and once more take the 1872 Cup back to Glasgow.
“It’s huge retaining the 1872 Cup despite the disappointing result today, but it’s great that we can keep the Cup in Glasgow. We were saying in the changing room that it was similar last year. We lost to Edinburgh at the end of the year, and then that really spurred us on in the new year. But we are just looking to take the learnings and accelerate into the new year.
A tough day in Edinburgh, but we’re pleased the 1872 Cup is staying in the west. https://t.co/us2hssvCEM

Moving into the New Year, Glasgow Warriors are back in European action with Racing 82 at Scotstoun on January 10. Brown is keen that the team take the best aspects of the last two weeks into the European games.
The past two weeks, in both those games, when we look after our speed of ball and our physically we can be really dangerous and hard to deal with. We really want to put our stamp on Europe. That is a big focus for us this season, to progress well in that competition.
It wouldn’t be a Glasgow Warriors game without the audible support from the Warrior Nation in the stands.
“Thank you so much! Hampden last week was crazy! We can see all the Warriors hats and flags in the stands at Murrayfield and it really does mean a lot to us. Especially that people make the effort to come across to watch us.
“We are sorry that we couldn’t get it done today but your continued support means so much to us.
“Hope you all have a good New Year and we hope to see you at Scotstoun in January!”
Always with us 💪
Thanks for your support today, Warrior Nation – we’ll come back stronger in 2025 👊#WhateverItTakes ⚔️🛡️ pic.twitter.com/a0rYaCRzx7
