Darge voted McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for May
Rory Darge expressed his gratitude to the Warrior Nation after being voted as the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for May, the openside taking home the final monthly award of the 2023/24 season.
The Scotland international claimed over 48% of the public vote from the Scotstoun faithful to take home the trophy, beating Johnny Matthews to the prize after a month that saw the flanker at the heart of Glasgow’s push for the BKT URC playoffs.
All-action displays against the Vodacom Bulls and Emirates Lions saw Darge empty the tank under the South African sun, frequently causing havoc at the breakdown.
He then showcased his full range of skills in the club’s final home match of the regular season, with two turnovers, three line breaks and a Player of the Match-winning performance helping the Warriors to a 38-26 victory over Zebre Parma to secure the Scottish-Italian Shield for a second successive season.
Darge was presented with his award as preparations continue for this weekend’s pivotal BKT URC semi-final clash, which sees Franco Smith’s side travel to Thomond Park to take on top seeds Munster this Saturday night.
“I’m really pleased to be voted the winner in a month where so many of the boys have been playing well,” Darge told glasgowwarriors.org.
“Thanks to everyone who voted – all the fans have been top class this season, home and away.
“You could see the impact they had on Saturday night for the quarter-final- the home crowd made a massive difference.
“We’re all buzzing for an even bigger game this week and hopefully we’ll see as many of you out there as we can.”
Darge also earns a donation to a charity of his choice courtesy of McCrea Financial Services, the flanker supporting Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity with his award.
“I chose the Children’s Hospital because I’ve had the privilege to see how much good work the team at the charity does ever since I moved to Scotstoun,” he said.
“The efforts of the team to make a difference to the lives of the kids and their families is so inspiring, and I’m happy to be able to help in any way that I can.”
