Glasgow Warriors confirm 2026/27 Senior Academy squad

Last season, nine players graduated from the academy to earn professional contracts, underlining the strength of the club’s player development pathway.

Ten players will join the Senior Academy for the first time this year, alongside three Stage Two and seven Stage Three players.

The new intake is spearheaded by a group of players who have progressed through the Glasgow Warriors pathway from an early age.

Stirling County stand-off Henry Armstrong, GHA back-row duo Rory Baxter and Lloyd Moncrieff and Glasgow Hawks trio Max Morrison, Harvey Preston and Campbell Waugh have all represented the club’s age-grade programme across U16, U17 and U18 level before earning age-grade Scotland honours.

Preston has previously captained Scotland U19 and both he and Waugh helped Scotland U20 secure a fifth-place finish at this summer’s World Rugby U20 Championship in Georgia.

Armstrong, Morrison, Moncrieff and Baxter have all represented Scotland at U18 level, with Baxter also earning a call-up to the World Rugby U20 Championship squad.

Australian-born, Scottish-qualified scrum-half Callum Reidy also joins the Senior Academy after impressing during an extended spell training with Franco Smith’s squad throughout last season.

The intake is further strengthened by the arrival of South African-born, Scottish-qualified twins James and Josh Mackenzie.

Eligible for Scotland through their paternal grandparents, the brothers caught the eye during the Warriors’ United Rugby Championship tour of South Africa in April, training with the squad while in Johannesburg.

The pair have also spent time in Scotland through an exchange programme with Glenalmond College, where they gained valuable exposure to Glasgow Warriors training and Scottish Rugby’s performance pathway.

Former Scotland U20 international Guy Rogers completes the list of new arrivals, joining from London Scottish to provide additional competition across the backline.

Dylan Cockburn, Jackson Rennie and Cam Van Wyk return for Stage Two of the academy.

Cockburn made his professional debut in last season’s victory over Munster at Scotstoun, while Rennie was another key contributor to Scotland U20’s impressive campaign in Georgia.

Joe Roberts captained Scotland at the World Rugby U20 Championship, with Ollie McKenna, Dan Halkon and Alex Bryden also playing prominent roles during the campaign.

They return for Stage Three alongside Rory Purvis, Jake Shearer and Harry Provan, continuing their progression towards the professional game.

The academy squad will begin preparations for the 2026/27 campaign alongside the senior Warriors squad as pre-season training commences on Tuesday 4 August.

Glasgow Warriors Senior Academy Manager Nick Ryan believes the latest intake underlines the strength of the club’s player development pathway.

“We’re really excited by the group coming into the academy this season. A number of these players have been part of our pathway for several years and it’s rewarding to see them take the next step, while others have impressed through opportunities within our environment or arrive having experienced different development journeys.

“The academy has a strong track record of producing players capable of making the transition into professional rugby, and it’s now up to this group to make the most of the opportunities they’ll receive training alongside Franco and the senior squad every day.”
