‘I wanted to rise to the occasion’ | Fin Richardson

Glasgow Warriors defeated the Scarlets 17-15 in Round 7 of the URC. Fin Richardson gained his first cap with a win on debut.

Fin Richardson became Glasgow Warrior 364 after the Scottish side defeated Scarlets by two points.

Fin joined Glasgow over the summer from the southwest of England. He previously featured in ‘A’ games against Edinburgh and in the matchday 23 when Scotland ‘A’ beat Chile 19-17 on Saturday 23 November.

The Glasgow prop was pleased to gain his first cap in a senior men’s shirt.

‘It went really well,’ Fin said. ‘Can’t beat a win on debut. It feels pretty good.’

‘The lads really bring it. This week, we’d been talking about the fact it doesn’t matter who’s wearing the shirt, so it’s about rising to the opportunity. I think we did a good job. Me and Jare coming out this time on the pitch as both of our first caps.’

‘I wanted to rise to the occasion. I felt like it was pretty seamless and something we’ve been training for.’

Culture was central to Glasgow’s success when they won the URC in 2023/24. That culture under Franco Smith has continued into this season and it’s something that Fin admired when he joined the club.

‘It didn’t feel that different playing with the young guys. I’ve played two games against Edinburgh A with a few of the lads that played tonight.

‘Being a team like Glasgow, everyone is trying to do the same thing all the time. Everyone is on the same page. Even when there’s a switch in personnel, everyone’s one mind. I think that really brings cohesion to the squad.’

Round 7 was the third game held at Scotstoun Stadium in the league this season. Fin emphasised how loud the Warrior Nation were upon the return to club rugby.

‘It was brilliant. I’ve never played in front of a crowd this loud, so it took a bit of getting used to. When the noise rises, you really feel the push and the energy from the crowd. The Warrior Nation really encouraged us against Scarlets.’
