“I’m just happy to be back” | Cummings reflects on Leinster win

Glasgow Warriors won their opening game of the BKT United Rugby Championship against Leinster 43-25 on Sunday afternoon.

The game was very well fought on both sides with Glasgow ultimately coming out on top.  Scott Cummings caught up with glasgowwarriors.org to share what he thought about the game.

“It was a very tough game, very physical.  Leinster played well and we are obviously very happy with the win but there is still a lot for us to work on.”

Cummings has been away with the Scotland squad during the Rugby World Cup, and has only just come back in to join the squad.

“I was pretty happy to come straight back in and get involved.

“Obviously, Glasgow means a lot to a lot of the boys and we all want to get the season kicked off in the right way.  Those of us who are back will be getting time off soon, but I’m just happy to be back in.”

Last night saw Angus Fraser get his first try for Glasgow while securing the bonus point, Henco Venter making his debut and George Horne achieving his 100th cap for the club.  For Cummings, however, his stand out moment of the match were the maul tries scored in the second half.

“At the end getting those maul tries,” Cummings said, “that’s something as a team that we like to pride ourselves on and things weren’t necessarily going our way.  So it was really good to get those over the line.”

Speaking about George Horne’s achievement of 100 caps, Cummings was full of pride.

“George is some guy.  He’s one of the hardest working guys on the team and puts his body on the line and never gives up.

“We all know how much 100 caps mean to him; we all know how much one cap means to him.  It’s a massive moment for him and we are all really proud of him and can’t wait for him to get to 150 and 200.”

Glasgow’s next game is away to Connacht in just under a week’s time.

“It’s a bit of a short turn around for an away game.  We are just going to have to get our heads down and take our learnings from this game and go put on an even better performance.

“Connacht at home is always a really tough game. So we are excited for that and cant wait to crack into the week.”

Finally, the Warrior Nation were out in force, with many of the fans staying around for a post match signing session on the pitch.

“It was obviously great to have the fans in the stadium.  We can really hear them on the pitch.  I know we say it all the time but being able to hear them really does push us on.

“It always means a lot when we can put on a winning performance at home.”

Glasgow Warriors next home game is against the DHL Stormers on Friday 3 November. Tickets and more information can be found here.
