Bogan set for Edinburgh rematch

Holland Bogan is looking forward to the chance to measure the development of Glasgow Warriors in the 2024/25 Celtic Challenge, as the vice-captain and her team-mates prepare to take on Edinburgh at Scotstoun this Saturday.

The Stirling County product has now been part of the Glasgow Warriors squad for the last two years, and talked about how the squad’s progress so far this season ahead of the club’s first-ever home clash with their cross-country rivals.

“It’s been great!” Bogan told glasgowwarriors.org.

“We’ve evolved so much as a team, especially with the mix of new players and those returning to the squad. We’ve also learnt from the players who aren’t Scotland-based, which gives us another point of view for development.”

The second-row discussed how the team has reacted to each match to date, and what the process on building up their performances looks like on a weekly basis.

“We have learnt a lot from mistakes that have cost us in each match, and that’s both testament to the coaching group here and our development as a group,” she said.

“We always go back and review the matches week in and week out and pinpoint what we can do better. We’ve definitely tackled things that we felt needed improvement and have worked on our structure more, but there is obviously way more that can be better.

“We are definitely building and that continues this weekend.”

Bogan also highlighted the importance of the competition to her own development, as she continues to look for ways to improve her own skillset and performances.

“Every single game is a chance to develop skills and I have tried to make the most out of it,” she said.

“I feel I’ve progressed through game time in aspects such as physical skills, especially playing against internationally-capped players – that brings your physicality to a whole different level. Another aspect is decision making, which is a tough one as it very much is learning on the job, so more game time against international quality opponents is a massive help.”

With Edinburgh visiting Scotstoun for the first time this Saturday, the match serves as a good bar to measure the progress the Warriors have made through this season of the Celtic Challenge, having come up against the capital outfit in round one of this season’s competition.

“I’m really excited,” said Bogan.

“I think we’ve definitely got what it takes, especially with the benefit of being at home. It is going to be good to get them to come to us this time.

“We have definitely grown our game from the last time we played them at the start of the competition. We have also got more depth in the squad now, and our confidence is growing week by week in this group.”

Thinking ahead for the remainder of the Celtic Challenge, Bogan also touched upon the goals the squad and herself individually would like to achieve.

“From individual point of view, I would like to just make progress when it comes to my rugby,” she said.

“I just want to play with and against different types of players, so I can learn to play my game in different situations and keep perfecting my skills.

“As a squad, we’d obviously like to finish the season with a win. That would be awesome. Ending on a better result than last year’s standings wise would mean we have built on our performances, and helps us continue to establish the Glasgow Warriors squad for those that come next.”
