Glasgow Warriors to compete in Celtic Challenge

Glasgow Warriors will launch a women’s team for the very first time, after it was confirmed that a Glasgow Warriors squad will compete in the newly-expanded Celtic Challenge.

The new-look lineup of the development competition will see two teams apiece from Scotland, Ireland and Wales compete in an expanded tournament, with Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh representing Scotland.

Initially launched at the start of 2022, the competition will adopt a new format which will be made up of five rounds, before three double-header play-off rounds determine who will be this season’s Celtic Challenge champions.

The new Glasgow team will play their home matches at Scotstoun and wear the distinctive black kit, with the squad’s first-ever fixture seeing the Warriors take on their cross-country counterparts at Hive Stadium on Saturday 30 December (kick-off 12pm).

Full details, including the club’s coaching team, playing squad and official sponsors, will be announced in the coming weeks, whilst ticketing information for matches at Scotstoun will be communicated across glasgowwarriors.org and the club’s official social media channels.

Speaking following the announcement, Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “We’re extremely excited to be able to expand our club with the launch of our first-ever women’s team; it’s an outstanding opportunity for us to help to further the development of the next generation of Scottish rugby talent, and showcase this club to a new audience.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make this team and this vision come to life, from the backroom team behind the scenes, to our network of sponsors and partners and those involved centrally at Scottish Rugby.

“We look forward to sharing more details about our team in the next few weeks, and we’re excited to introduce our newest Warriors to the Warrior Nation.”
