Alex Craig has become the latest Glasgow Warrior to extend his contract with the club, after agreeing to remain at Scotstoun until at least the summer of 2029.
The Scotland international has swiftly become a key member of a highly-vaunted Glasgow forward pack, having made 16 appearances last season in his first campaign as a Warrior.
He made his club debut in October 2025 in a 49-0 victory over the Dragons at Scotstoun, lining up alongside his former Scotland U20 second row partner, Scott Cummings.
No player in major club competitions with over 100 tackles had a better success rate than Craig’s score of 99.1% during the 2025/26 season, making an impact in both the BKT United Rugby Championship and Investec Champions Cup.
He marked his first outing of the 2026/27 campaign in style, crossing for his first Glasgow Warriors try in the 47-27 away victory over Sale Sharks.
Born in Dumfries, Craig was a key member of the Scotland U20 squad that achieved a fifth-place finish in the 2017 World Rugby U20 Championship, lining up alongside future Glasgow and Scotland team-mates such as Matt Fagerson and Stafford McDowall in the squad.
The 29-year-old has also enjoyed standout stints with Gloucester and Scarlets in his career to date, in addition to earning seven caps to date for Scotland since his international debut in the 2021 Guinness Six Nations win over Italy.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” Craig told glasgowwarriors.org following the announcement.
“It was a really easy decision to be honest – I loved my first season with the club, and I’m really excited to see what we can achieve as a group. We’re building well together at Scotstoun and I feel like we’re in a great place.
“I definitely felt like I took some time to find my feet in my first year here, but everyone at the club has made it such a welcoming environment to come in and be part of. I’ve really settled in well and I’m looking forward to kicking on over the next few years.
“It was great to get back on the field on Saturday, and even better to get over for the try – I don’t score many! There was a lot of hard work from the team before I got the ball over the line, so I’ll take it but the credit definitely has to be shared around.
“I just want to play as well as I can in a Glasgow Warriors shirt each and every time I’m selected by the coaches. It’s a team that I’ve supported ever since I was a young lad growing up, so it means a lot to me to have the honour of representing the club and its supporters. I’d obviously love to keep pushing for Scotland honours as well, but the first job is to give my all for Glasgow and put myself in as strong a position as possible.”
Head Coach Franco Smith added: “From his first day with us at Scotstoun, Alex has dedicated himself to becoming the best version of himself that he can be, both on and off the field.
“He is someone for whom being a Glasgow Warrior means a great deal, both to him personally and to his family, and you can see that each time he takes to the field.
“He plays an important role for us both with his carrying and his defensive expertise, and we are pleased that he will be staying at Scotstoun for the next couple of seasons.”
