Tight-head McQuillin extends stay at Warriors

Glasgow Warriors have retained the services of tight-head prop Ewan McQuillin.

McQuillin has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club that will see him working alongside British and Irish Lion Zander Fagerson, internationals Simon Berghan, Enrique Pieretto and, new signing, Murray McCallum.

The Melrose born Scotland Club XV international has spent the last 18 months with Danny Wilson’s side after joining from the Southern Knights where he impressed in the inaugural FOSROC Super6 season.

To date the prop has made two appearances for the club, coming off the bench against the Dragons and Leinster in the 2019/20 Guinness PRO14 season.

The 2014 Macphail Scholarship recipient started his professional career as part of the Elite Development Programme at Edinburgh Rugby before moving south with time spent at Yorkshire Carnegie and London Scottish.

Glasgow Warriors head coach, Danny Wilson, said: “Ewan has worked extremely hard this last season to get up to the standard he wants to be at and that has not gone unnoticed.

“He offers a very strong presence in the scrum and is very diligent in his conditioning and attention to detail.

“He’s a great character off the field and we’re looking forward to having him continue to be a part of our squad.”

On penning his new deal McQuillin said: “Playing for Glasgow means a lot to me. It’s a great club with a lot of history behind it and all I want to do is keep pushing for my spot in the 23 and to get to pull on the Glasgow Warriors jersey again.

“I had a lot of work ons last season around my conditioning – the suspension of the league and the FOSROC Super6 had meant I had been out the game for some time.

“I worked really hard last year to get to a place where both myself and the club were happy with, and I’ve been rewarded with another contract which I’m over the moon about.

“This season for me is about building on my improvements from last year and earning a spot on the team sheet.

“I’m really happy to get another deal with Glasgow. It’s made all my hard work well worth it.”
